Education

                                                   Does degree worth it?
Kenya and the whole world have been experiencing an influx in the index of job seekers who are aggressive in the search. It has even reached a state whereby individuals do not even care if the job is really related to the degree they had acquired. Don’t be surprised to witness a highly qualified once engineering student teaching physics. It really wasn’t their wish but due to globalisation and survival for the fittest, he found himself on the weaker organisms’ side thus he was weeded out. Paving their way through was very difficult since the race proved not only to consist of papers but also their personality. It was a formality which made others to despair even before the completion of the task intended. Some are just by virtue presenting their soul in the classes instead of actually attending to take courses.
Interviews have ambushed many who thought that the literature on the paper would speak for them yet the interviewers know that those were mwakenya’s result but not theirs. Shock should not be upon you when you are given a set of questions to work on during that day. During the interviews you are expected to prove and also be able to convince the panel whether you are capable for the job being offered. You should prove why you but not others. What is special about you? These will include your leadership skills, co-curriculum activities, intelligence, and reputation and don’t forget your health. Failing to get involved in various clubs and association will cost a number of comrades. Some of us consider several associations to be tribal and are of no weight to them. Such areas are where one can test his leadership skills and even just being a member worth making you different that you had at once involved yourself in a group work. Even the community work being organized by some of the clubs like The Red Cross Club will always prove to be your defense if you had attended and acquired a certificate of it during interviews.
Kenya has been progressing through various sectors of the economy and this call for the need of hiring highly qualified personality. To select these people even their health will be highly considered as a matter of fact. Some companies cannot actually seek the service of a person who looks weak to undertake on their operations. Some of us are strong drunkards and they have been carried away by its waves. Your dangling appearance surely will deprive you an opportunity of being considered as part of that highly reputed organization. To summarize this is that a sick medic should not care for the patients.

I call upon every individual to brainstorm on his worthiness not just by working hard to acquire a first class but also to build on the element which will spice on his papers. Sometimes while working it may reach a time when the organization would wish to promote or even to retrench worker. It is at this stage whereby your worthiness will be weighed in comparison to others. It is my pleasure to see a number of you penetrating their ways through the high walls of job battles.

Ethnicity in campus.                                                                       Michael Odhiambo Oduor.
Provocation! Why do you have to remind a person of his past?  This has afflicted the tribal affiliations in our country recently. Even here in campus, the pathogens causing tribalism are vividly present. It is amoral for any individual to get involved in this choking and an immature condition. It is classism if you segregate your fellow comrade because his roots are from Mombasa, Makueni, Tharaka Nithi, Siaya, and Kesses or even from Mandera. It is a political injustice to casket yourself in such cocoons. Absolutely a great shame!
Basing my reasoning from the prevailing situation here in campus, it is not a surprise that student group themselves from ethnical grounds be it class groups or even socially. Who should be blamed for this? Are they our forefathers or us? It is a shame that Onyango and Kamau cannot be together simply because they have ideological differences and also parallel political interests. Just the other week I witnessed a duo fight reasons being provocation. It started when subject A reminded subject B that he was a looser because she had victoriously won the last “paper”. We should shun from such menace which can poison our relationships as comrades and also as Kenyans. Another scenario was when a very close friend of mine early this semester went to his club meeting only to realize that almost 90% of the club’s officials were from one particular tribe. I simply asked him, “Were they vetted and voted for?” our conversation then came to an end.
It is noble to be together in all situations that unifies us. Be your brother’s keeper and also learn to protect him at all levels. We were made to believe by the Most High that LOVE is something which should be practice by every human being.
The situation in campus is getting out of control and appropriate steps should be taken to curb this situation. If George Bush and Mohammed Doyo cannot be together then something is wrong. Same to Jeff Kenyatta and Misigo Michael. The point here is that something is rotting amongst us. Our relationship! The spirit of comradeship will be high if we see Doyo and Bush shaking hands same to Jeff and Misigo.  Normally when two bulls are fighting, grass suffers a lot while the herdsman enjoys it. It is to my opinion that we embrace the spirit of brotherhood just to promote good relations. if you keenly analyze reasons why the two parallel groups were fighting over the amendment of the constitution, it is simply because of two major reasons. One reason was because of ethnicity of the former group in that there was an over dominance of one major tribe. The other reason is a long one and will feature next time. It is not right to say that we have three major tribes and others in Kenya. Absolutely it’s wrong!
We should repackage our conscience to learn to accommodate one another irrespective of their tribes. Never be intractable to associate with others as this will erase cases of intrusion within Moi University community. Intolerant behavior should also be pulled out of our diaries and insert “Amicus friendlier” characters. Together we will strive for excellence if we let comradeship peddle our struggle. Turn on the light and never let darkness bewitch you in the name of tribal ethnicity.
